Cathrine took the time to share some personal thoughts during our introductory Q + A. Check out what she had to say, including why she chose Runa and what you might find her doing outside of the office.

Q: What made you want to join the Runa team?

A: For many years I have been drawn to the beautiful materiality and textual nature of Runa projects. Strong aesthetics combined with Runa Workshop’s culture of collaboration and client-focus made this an incredible opportunity.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

A: Spend time with my family! Whether it is on the soccer fields, at a local brewery, or traveling to new places— they are my favorite people to be with.

Q: What does collaboration mean to you?

A: Collaborating starts with listening and understanding project requirements and unique opportunities. Every team member adds value in a collaborative environment by bringing experience and perspective to creatively problem-solve.  By working together and seizing opportunities, thoughtful coordinated concepts lead to successful projects and remarkable, experiential places.

Q: What is your favorite possession (design based)?

A:  Tough question, maybe my house? Over time it has become full of design collaborations with my architect-husband. It’s nothing flashy, but we get to work together. Plus, sentimentally it holds memories of our kids growing up!

Q: What are you most looking forward to in this role?

A: Executing beautiful work.

Q: What can we as designers do to better support our community during this unprecedented time?

A: People need people. As designers, we have the opportunity to provide inspiring spaces for occupants to connect and interact with one another. Our built spaces should improve the quality of life for members of our community—making work and play enjoyable.

Q: Which architects do you love?

A: Inspiration is all around— I’m constantly soaking in design experiences that can impress into future projects and solutions. I am drawn to spaces that connect the built environment to nature, innovative uses of material, or unexpected pops of color.

Q: Which architectural projects do you find the most exciting?

A: People-centric spaces. I love designing for the experience of the occupant.
